Dr Marceline Akieh-Pirkanniemi Joins Omgenis as Research and Development Director
Omgenis is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Marceline Akieh-Pirkanniemi as Director of Research and Development.
Dr Akieh-Pirkanniemi brings extensive experience in pharmaceutical research and controlled drug-delivery technologies. Her expertise will be instrumental as Omgenis advances its magnesium microparticle technology from its current development stage towards a clinically and commercially viable treatment for periodontitis and peri-implantitis. In her new role, she will lead Omgenis’s research and development activities, including product formulation, preclinical development, manufacturing and regulatory-related development. Her appointment further strengthens Omgenis’s internal capabilities and supports the company’s ambition to develop a differentiated treatment solution for the global periodontal care market.
Business Finland Supports Omgenis’s Early Development through Sprint Funding
Business Finland has awarded Sprint funding to support the early development of Omgenis and its innovative treatment technology for periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
The project will enable Omgenis to further assess the technology’s technical and commercial potential, engage with clinical and industry experts, and refine its product-development, regulatory and market-entry plans. The funding represents an important step in Omgenis’s development as an internationally oriented health technology company. During the Sprint project, the company will build the evidence and commercial foundations required for the next phase of product development and future international growth. Business Finland’s support also reflects the project’s potential to address a significant unmet need in the global oral healthcare market.
Omgenis Signs Exclusive Worldwide Licence Agreement with the University of Pittsburgh
Omgenis has signed an exclusive worldwide licence agreement with the University of Pittsburgh covering proprietary magnesium microparticle technology for applications in periodontal and peri-implant tissue regeneration.
The agreement grants Omgenis exclusive global rights to develop and commercialise the licensed technology in the fields of periodontitis and peri-implantitis. It establishes a strong foundation for the company’s product-development programme and international commercial strategy.
Omgenis is developing the technology as a locally administered, biodegradable medical device intended to complement established periodontal procedures. The magnesium-based microparticles are designed to provide a temporary degradable matrix within the treated tissue, supporting local tissue healing and regeneration and the associated recovery of alveolar bone. The technology is based on biodegradable magnesium microparticles whose controlled degradation is an inherent part of the material’s performance. The resulting biological responses are intended to stop disease from progressing and to support the regenerative process while the material is progressively resorbed. The collaboration brings together scientific innovation originating from the University of Pittsburgh and Omgenis’s focus on translating advanced biomaterials research into clinically meaningful and commercially viable medical-device solutions for oral healthcare.
